    Blocking link update (Excel 2000)

I have a workbook which has a link to a file that is no longer there. When I open the file, I get the explorer window and an OK or Cancel option. With either one, Excel stops responding. So I cannot get into the book to find and delete the problem link. Is there some key combo that will stop the link from refreshing, as there is for stopping macros from executing? Or do I need some file recovery-ware? Thanks.

Re: Blocking link update (Excel 2000)

    Try running in excel.
Goto VB(alt-f11) and in immediate window (ctrl-g) enter (change name of file and path as appropriate):
    workbooks.Open "C:Filename.xls", 0

The 0 is the optional UpdateLinks parameter. The 0 indicates :"doesn't update any references"

Once open with links not updated, you should be able to modify the links.
