    Internet Explorer (6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920)

IE does not always shut down properly; sometimes need to use TaskManager and "End Program Now" to effect shut down. Suggestions ?

I assume you mean End Task in the Task Manager, don't you? What does IE do or any error messages when you try to close it? Have you an up to date virus scanner on your system? Have you run any spyware detection software to see if there are any snakes in the woodpile? Need a tad more info to try to figure out what's going on on your system.

IE often launches other programs under its umbrella, such as the Acrobat Reader plug-in and other ActiveX controls. If any of these dies, Windows might point the finger at IE. Thus, it would help to know if you can narrow the problem down to a particular site or type of content that is causing the problem.

Problem may have been solved, but I do not understand why it occurs. I had installed Adaware's Popup Stopper. The problem persists when this program is installed, but disappears when I uninstall the program. Anby ideas why and / or how to remedy the situation ?

You could try the MSN or Google toolbar. Both have popup stoppers.
