Outlook 2000 Problem in IE5.5

Frequently, when I try to e-mail a page from the mail button in IE5.5, I get the following message: "OUTLOOK caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff9db61" and I can't send either the page or the link.

I've reloaded Windows98SE and Office2000 and the problem hasn't gone away.

The system was virus scanned by McAfee VirusScan on 01/07.

I have 128mg of RAM and a 12+ Gig HD with less than 4 Gig used.

Any suggestions?

every page you try to email or only some? anything common between the pages causing problems, like asp etc?

it may not be related - but are you using html mail format (pages display in the mail) or plain text (pages go as attachments)

Thank you for your reply.
The page fault occurs on an irregular basis. I may try to send the cover page to cnn.com and sometimes it works; other times it doesn't.The same applies with other web pages; it's a "hit-and-miss" situation.

BTW, what is "asp"?

I'm using html since sending a web page in plain text would lose all of the formatting and illustrations on the site.

asp = active server pages. a lot of sites use them instead of ones with the html or htm extensions.

Found the answer to my problem. Discovered Dr. Watson and ultimately I found that a program that had been downloaded (Adobe Type Manager) had altered Windows system files.

I deleted the program and the problem is gone.

I've now become a Dr. Watson junkie when I have a problem.

Would you mind briefly telling us how Dr. Watson helped?

I've played with it a little, but I never found it all that revealing for troubleshooting. Your thoughts?

Re: Outlook 2000 Problem in IE5.5

I put it in the start menu and when I have an error,it automatically reads what's happening. I then go to File|Save and then refer back to it.

The version that I'm using is in Win98SE which is far superior to what was in plain Win98.

This is what I got when I got the error that I initially wrote about:"The application overflowed its temporary memory area.

Module Name: KERNEL32.DLL
Description: Win32 Kernel core component
Version: 4.10.2222

Application Name: Outlook.exe
Description: Microsoft Outlook

Module Name: <unknown>

I hope that this helps. If you need any more info, please let me know,

Thanks for the feedback on Dr. Watson.

I haven't played with it since Win95(?). It looks like it does a LOT more now. Personally, I think that sort of troubleshooting info should be part of every non-processor error display, but at least it's better than nothing.

Now I wonder if it could be used to diagnose startup problems... hmmm...

I suspect that you're right. I just have a fear that if I mess around with IE I'll screw everything up and end up losing all of my bookmarks and probably everything else on the PC.

Trust me, I know myself when it comes to doing "simple" tasks on the PC.

Re: Outlook 2000 Problem in IE5.5

I suspect that it would diagnose any problem as long as it's in the startup menu and gets activated along with everything else.

Good luck!

No... I'm thinking more of detecting problems/conflicts with vxd's loading at startup (way before the startup group is looked at).

I'd like to help you but at this point, but when you mention vxds I'm totally lost.

I'm one of those people that can be best described as "having enough knowledge to be dangerous but not enough to know anything".
