USB Networking at home with 98SE & XP

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so please be patient with me. I have an old laptop running 98SE, unfortunately it has all the family photos on it as well. I am trying to figure out how to network it to my laptop which has XP home on it. I have a 4 port USB switch, and the proper USB cables as well but I can't seem to get them to talk. If anyone has any ideas about how to get those photos/network, it would be greatly appreciated

You need a NETWORK hub, you can not do what you want with a USB hub.

Thats what a couple of other people were saying. I guess I just grabbed the wrong one in the store by mistake. Thanks Dave!

Someone ought to write an application that would cause a computer to pretend that it was a mass storage device when interrogated through its USB port so that you could hook anything up to it and read its hard drive. Or maybe that already exists and we just don't know about it. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

There are USB to USB network cables, and they seem to work well. Try a Google search on "USB to USB network cable".

    Here is one source http://www.meritline.com/usb-2-netwo...sb-to-usb.html

That's true, networking is a more standard approach, but judging from the number of posts on configuring permissions, I thought there might be another way. (No one's every accused me of failing to think outside the box; sometimes outside the solar system.)
