1. ## If Functions (NT)

I'm about to SCREAM ... I'm trying to do a logics which basically states the following....

=If(C5 is >.001, 1/C5+2, if(C5="ND",1, if(c5="CD",2)

what am I doing wrong .. it will do the first part of my formula, but if the first "if" is false, and the cell is actually a ND or a CD - it's not population, only shows "VALUE" Help!

2. ## Re: If Functions (NT)

Try

=IF(AND(ISNUMBER(C5),C5 >0.001), 1/C5+2, IF(C5="ND",1, IF(C5="CD",2)))

Problem is that if C5 contains a text, C5>0.001 evaluates to TRUE; this may seem peculiar, but that's how Excel works. You need to build in a check to test if C5 is numeric. Your formula doesn't provide a return value if none of the conditions is met, so it will return FALSE in those cases. If that's what you want, fine, otherwise you'll have to provide return values for those cases. Here is a formula that does so:

=IF(ISNUMBER(C5),IF(C5 >0.001,1/C5+2,"smaller"),IF(C5="ND",1,IF(C5="CD",2,"other text")))

Thanks so much, I took the last function, and instead of other text, did "2" and it seemed to work!!!!!
