IE 6.0 (Office XP)

Hi,
I have previously been assisted with a problem with the Edit button on the IE toolbar; my only choices were Excel and Notepad. The Word option had disappeared. With assistance <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> I was able to get the choice to edit with Word back but when I choose it one of two things occur: (1) word opens but nothing else happens or (2) I get the following errors which I have no idea about <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> Will someone take a look at this for me please?
BTW, the new skins are great!
Thanks.

Thanks for the comment on the skins. <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15> <img src=/S/bow.gif border=0 alt=bow width=15 height=15>

What did you do, specifically, to restore the edit button? Perhaps a better option would be to run a repair of Office?

If you want to muck around, you may also need to add a registry entry, or modify an existing one, to finish the job (so to speak). I am using Office 2003 so I am not 100% sure that this is the correct key, but I think they are the same:<UL><code>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWord.Document.8HTM L Handlershelleditcommand</code>
I show for the command the following value:<UL><code>"C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11msohtmed.exe" /o0 </code>
There is also a percentsign1 at the end of the line, but the Lounge is acting strange when I try to post it so I've spelled it out here. If you are not sure what I mean, look at the attached text for the value.

Thanks for the assistance, Mark. When I got to the value it looks correct. Soooo, exactly how do I run a repair of Office XP? <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15>

From within any Office application, you can select Help - Detect and Repair and it should start for you. Make sure you have your Office CD handy. You can also start Office setup from the CD and it will offer to reinstall everything for you as one of the options; if there's a difference between the two I don't know what it is...

Re: Editing with MS Word from inside IE (6.0/XP)

This issue arises randomly with Windows Explorer, too. If Word already is running, the double-clicked document opens just fine, but if Word is not running, the document never gets opened, and one of those errors usually is displayed. If I recall correctly, it often is related to the global templates that start up with Word. I just can't recall whether there's any one template to blame... Does it help to have Word running before trying to edit the page?

Re: IE 6.0 (Office XP)

Hi again,
I used Detect and Repair from inside Word, inserted the CD and shortly got a message that the process is complete. Great! I went back to IE to see if Word works as a HTML editor and it is gone from the list. I went back to the original post where I got the instructions to add Word (post # 33155 - sorry, don't know how to link to it) and was able to put Word back as the default HTML editor. Great again. <img src=/S/nope.gif border=0 alt=nope width=15 height=15> Word opens when I click on edit but otherwise nothing happens . . . Help! <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Re: Editing with MS Word from inside IE (6.0/XP)

Hi John,

I tried just now opening Word and then going to IE and using Word as the editor and I got the same two errors I posted with my original question. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
