AV missing after upgrade (XP Pro)

I have just upgraded from ME and I find my PC-cillin Av and Firewall are no longer working. The program files are still there but the software does not get installed at startup. I have sent a message to Trend Micro but I've received an unhelpful and general response. Is anyone able to help?

I don't know about PC-cillin, but with the corporate product, OfficeScan, the executables are completely different for Windows 9x/ME and Windows NT/2000/XP.

If you have the original CD for PC-cillin, I would uninstall what you have and re-install from the CD. If you purchased a download, it's possible that it was only for your old OS (to save on the size of the download), and in that case, you should see what support can do for you. At the very least, you'd qualify for the upgrade price to the latest version.

(Also, I'm moving this thread over to our newest board. )
(Edit: Well, I would move it, but so many people are looking at it, I don't want to crash anyone's browser...)

Rob, I found this somewhere in the Trend Micro web site but can't remember where. I'm in my 2nd year with PC-cillin and don't use their firewall. I had to modify the pc-cillin.ini file (in the PC-cillin directory) to add the following:

[POP3]
ListenPort=110
ConnectPort=110

Look in your INI file and see if you've got that section.

Thanks for the response, Jefferson. Support is so general as to be useless. I don't recall that the OS was specified when downloading it, but I'm probably wrong. The setup file is there. Should I just try to run it?

Sure. If that doesn't work, then try uninstalling and re-installing. You might see if there are any settings files to back up (I guess there aren't that many settings to back up, are there?).

Thanks Jefferson and Al for your suggestions. It's no longer a problem. I ran the setup file again expecting a nil return but it's now sorted itself out.

It's sweet when software exceeds your expectations. It's sad that we've had them set so low.
