    Assigning Specfiic Printer (Word 2003)

Hi. In Word 2003, is there any way to assign a specific printer to documents based on a particular template. For instance, all documents based on Template X need to print at Printer X, all documents based on Template Y need to print at Printer Y and all documents based on Template Z need to print at Printer Z. Is there a way to set that so it's automatic when you go to Print? Thanks.

Word can only have one ActivePrinter at a time. We've had macros posted in the past that save the name of the current ActivePrinter, print (or let the user print using the print dialog) the current document, and then switch it back. The question is, is it better to store a customized version of this macro in each template, or try to store the information about the desired printer in the template and store the macro in a global container. I'd say it really depends on the frequency with which you expect to edit the macro. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> As for where one might store the information in the template, hmmm. A Custom Document Property probably isn't accessible in the template itself, but should carry forward to a document based on that template. In a way, perhaps that's better, in case the document becomes disassociated with its template. Or maybe worse if someone does a Save As. (Now I don't know what to think. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> )

    That actually helps. Thanks.
