Portrait Footer on Landscape Page (2002 or 2003)

I have a landscape section within a portrait document. I would like to retain the portrait footer on the landscape page (i.e., sideways on the left side of the landscape page). There is an old <!post=thread,29235>thread<!/post> that provides several "fiddley" (admittedly, by them) solutions. I'm just wondering if there's something easier in Word 2002 or 2003. Seems like it shouldn't be such a headache...
