    Max value (Access 2000)

Does Access provide for the use of conditional statements similar to those used in Excel? I have the capacity totals (num) by category by organization. I would like to find the maximum value from the Capacity Total field for each unique value in the Category field.

    Thanks for any assistance!

    Re: Max value (Access 2000)

Create a query based on your table (or query).
Add the Category and Capacity Total fields. Don't add the Organization or other fields.
Select View | Totals or click the Totals button on the toolbar.
Leave the Total option for Category as Group By, but change it for Capacity Total to Max.
    View the result.

Add the Organization field to the query, with Group By as option.

You may want to display the result as a crosstab: select Tools | Crosstab Query. Set the Crosstab option for Category to Row Heading, for Organization to Column Heading (or vice versa), and for Capacity Total to Value.
