Edit an email address (XP SP1)

Is there a way to actually edit an email address in my Outlook contacts? Everytime I try to edit, it deletes the old and leaves me with a blank. Sometimes the changes I need to make are only 1 character and it would be really helpful to just insert that character. Have I missed a setting somewhere?

    Thanks.

No you haven't - that's what it does.

One way is to drag it to the white notes box in the contact form, make the change there, and drag it back.

Well, aren't you clever to have found that! Thank you. Even I can manage that! Solves one of life's little problems.

    Have a good weekend!

Yes, I think you have. (Sorry Andrew <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>). At least, the following works in 2003; right click the address, select Properties, and I think the edit box in the resulting dialog permits editing.

But I heartliy agree with you (and Andrew), you should be able to edit in-place without these shenanigans; at least it would be helpful if you could press the F2 key and edit the address in situ.

    I keep punching F2 and it keeps doing nothing <img src=/S/crybaby.gif border=0 alt=crybaby width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/crybaby.gif border=0 alt=crybaby width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/crybaby.gif border=0 alt=crybaby width=15 height=15> . I'll check out your solution, John. Thanks!

I hope you didn't misunderstand me, I was trying to say the F2 key doesn't do anything, but -I- wish it would (since F2 is a common key to edit things such as File Names in File Explorer, and cells contents in Excel - I always test the F2 key to see what it does in Windows Apps dialogs I'm not familiar with).

Try selecting the e-mail address and right clicking it.

John, I know that F2 doesn't do anything. But hope springs eternal so I keep pounding it and get frustrated. Suppose it's because I'm blonde?

Absolutely it does work (right clicking address, selecting properties and editing). Thanks!

Thanks John - I'm always happy to learn a new way to do things.

While reviewing the replies I tried something else that turned out to be different and even easier!

When in the Contacts folder display (before double clicking the contact itself). The email address is displayed - that can be editted in place and the change is automatic as soon as you click off it.

    Good eye!

I can't see why in one view it's click and edit, in another it's three clicks and edit.

John, I can't possibly turn gray unless L'Oreal stops making Blonde 9-1/2BB!

    Andrew, what a great find!

    Thank you!
