XP and NTFS?

I have looked all over for the answer to this. Hopefully someone testing the beta or who knows the answer can post.

Does XP for home use use NTFS, and can it access NTFS hard disks? I'm using Win2k and I really don't want to have to reformat my HDs. (At least no other drives than my primary.)

Xp can use either or both NTFS and FAT32 type hard drive(s). You will NOT need to reformat your hard drives(s). When it comes to buying this new OS, I will be getting XP Pro and NOT the XP Per.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

yes, do not get personal. it's really too limited - it lacks dual monitor support and the ability to join a domain for starters.

Ok, what other drawbacks does Home have over Pro? I'll be honest in the fact that I do want better game support than I have under 2k. If Home is nothing but a stripped down version of Pro, then I'm for Pro 100%.

But, is there anything with Pro that might make it a worse gaming OS than Home?

Thanks for the answers about NTFS.

The home version is just stripped down and made a little more user friendly that the pro version.

As for the ntfs, I am currently testing xp pro and have two partitions, one is ntfs and on is fat32 and both work fine.

    Re: XP and NTFS?

nothing in home will make a difference with games. it lacks some additional things like file level security that home users likely won't need.

i expect most people will get home out of ignornace about what is different between the two and others will because they aren't willing to pay more to get what is missing.

we'll know in a few weeks how much different home and pro are, at this stage things are changing and rumor is multimonitor support is back in home.

I agree with MaryJ, I too am a beta tester and things are changing as we speak (type). I have the latest build for beta testing and things are looking nice.

There are utilities like PartitionMagic that will convert NTFS to Fat32 and vice versa, without losing data. Just make sure you have a backup (although I have never needed it). Then defragment.
