Insert AddressBook

I can't find the VBA way to display the Insert AddressBook dialog in Word 97. It is a toolbar button, but I want to

    with Dialogs(wdDialogInsertAddressBook)
.do some stuff to the dialog
    end with

This dialog (when opened with the toolbar button) looks like an old 16-bit windows dialog, so maybe it can only be called with an API call. (Lawrence, here we go again!)

Anybody got a good routine for presenting the user with the address list from Exchange or the Outlook client?

    Re: Insert AddressBook

If the address book to which you are referring is the one I opened from the toolbar button that looks like a little open book, when I recorded a macro using it, this is what I got:

WordBasic.InsertAddress

    Cute, eh?

You Wordbasic guys. Ok, keep going. I want to "adjust" that dialog a bit. Can you do that with Wordbasic too. And the bug question: are these Wordbasic commands still supported in VBA6 and beyond. Ok, as soon as my OXP machine finishes the ODE update, I'll answer that one myself.

    Re: Insert AddressBook

Valid question. That was recorded in Word 97 SR2, so Yes, WordBasic commands (to a certain degree) are still supported. However, if you have a choice between WB and VBA, I would suspect that VBA is the better choice.

In direct response to your original question. I did some looking and couldn't find anything, which is why I recorded a macro. I wanted to see what it would produce. Now what to do after that??????

    What do to?

...API call to a real 32-bit MAPI dialog, that's what.

    Re: Insert AddressBook

Here's the answer to the question Will Word support Wordbasic commands in future versions: Yes, 2002 (XP) supports them. I suspect MS may drop Wordbasic syntax when they upgrade VBA to VBA7. Only a guess, though.

    Re: Insert AddressBook

Off-topic perhaps, but: will there be a VBA7 - at least in a recognizable form? - or will we all need to learn to work in some "for applications" variant of VB.Net?

You have the more accurate prognostication here, I think.
