    PC beeping on boot up

    Hi,

On POST my PC is making a continuous beeping sound.
Sometimes it boots up with this noise other times it does not, the majority of times it does.
So l have to keep re-booting it the noise does not come up.

Is there any software which l can use which informs me of the speed of the CPU fan and if the CPU is over heating.
As l think this is the problem.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Justin.

    Hi Justin,

You could be right about it overheating. Just to make sure, have you used a fan/heatsink matched to the processor AND a suitable thermal transfer paste between the two? Is the air flow from the CPU free from obstructions such as flat cables, power supply, etc.?

Is it a steady 'beeeeeeeeeeeep.......beeeeeeeeeeeep......beeeeeee eeeeep'? You might like to try reseating the graphics card and the memory sticks. In my experience, AGP graphics cards can be very sensitive to being incorrectly seated, not helped by some of the poorly-manufactured cases I've come across.

As far as the monitoring software goes, Motherboard Monitor might do what you're looking for. Alternatively, your motherboard manufacturer may provide a program specifically designed for their boards. Have a look on their website or on the drivers CD that came with the board (if you have it).

This page at AMD may also provide further help with your problem.

    Hi,

Yes , it is a steady beeeep.....beeeeep....beeeep as you say.
I have had the fan replaced before as it was dirty. So l cannot understand as to why the beeping is reoccuring again.
Maybe it is a case of the incorrect fan/heatsink being matched to the processor.
I will run motherboard monitor and see what result l get from that.

    Thanks for your help.

    Justin.

You might also remove the side from the box and watch it while it runs.

    Mike,

Good idea. I will try this and see if l can notice anything unusual.

    Hi ,

I tried installing the software which you recommended but it does not appear to support my motherboard , the PC is fairly old.
Do you know of any software which might support older motherboards?

    Justin.

    Michael ,

I tried the software you mentioned but it did not support my motherboard.
Do you know of any other Freeware software which would support an older motherboard?

    Thanks
    Justin.

No, I don't use any mobo software. Was the fan running when you looked inside? Pretty easy to upgrade to a new motherboard for not much dough though if you think that's the problem.

As far as I know, each motherboard has its own beep code . You can google the name of the mother board and beep code and find out exactly what the problem is

    Just A Thought ...

... have you got the attached to the appropriate motherboard power connector? I only ask because I put in a fan a few days ago and just attached it to any fan connector and got lots of beeps because it needs to be attached to the specific CPU fan because that's how it figures (monitors) the fan's speed.
