    Pictures (2003)

Am I missing some setting in Outlook's options? It seems that ever since upgrading to Office 2003 and using Outlook 2003 when sending or receiving email messages that are supposed to have pictures displayed they are missing. I can make some of them appear by Right clicking and choosing "Show Picture" but still many never do appear when I do that. When I forward these messages they arrive at their destination without the pictures

Any ideas how to fix this?

    Thanks.

There is a security feature to read HTML mail as plain text. Not being a 2003 user, I'm not sure where you would turn this on or off, but that's my first guess. (Actually, it's my only guess. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> )

    Jefferson,

Thanks. I searched for that option. What I found is pictured in the attachment. Is that what you were talking about. The box was unchecked when I found it.

In 2003 it's under Tools | Options | E-Mail Options | check box "Read all standard mail in plain text".

I think that dialog's just for messages you send. See if my reply to Jefferson in this thread is of any help. Like Jefferson, I force my incoming and outgoing all to plain text, so I'm not totally with the program on all these viewing options. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>.

    John,

Thanks I misread Jefferson's note. Sorry about that.

I was looking for something about pictures and missed the part about plain text. How does this option help me receive or send embedded pictures? Also will this option cause me to lose the ability to format text within a note. One more question. When I checked that option it made another available, "Read all digitally signed mail in plain text." Do I need to check that box also?

    Thanks.

    Re: Pictures (2003)

First, I should have been more specific; I have that box checked, but if you want to see embedded pictures, I think you should have it UNchecked. And I'd leave the subsidiary box for digitally signed mail UNchecked. Checking that box won't affect your ability to send formatted messages if your default composition format is HTML or RTF, but it will change all incoming messages to plain text, which can seriously munge teh format of the message that is sent to you.

BUT, all that aside, I think the menu you want to check into is Tools | Options | Security | Change Automatic Download Settings. There's a bunch of options there, see if unchecking some of those helps. <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> the Help says that the Tools | Options | Security dialog is supposed to have a 'Download Pictures' menu option, but I don't see it on my installation. I'm still not certain this is going to help you see embedded pictures.

That's the setting I meant. But I don't use it (in Outlook 2002, if it's there); instead, I built a previewer so I can inspect messages before I open them.

I don't know if this will help, but in 2003 this will change the way pic are downloaded when you are receiving mail.

Click on "Change Automatice Download settings...."

    kzkz,

Not really. I just learned to live with it by Right Clicking and showing the picture when possible.

Hmmm. That doesn't work for me though. Apparently it's a CID referenced file and right-clicking does not show the attachment.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with someone using OL Express to send the e-mail. Was that the case with you?
