    Outlook calendar invites (1.0)

When an individuals from another organization sends a calendar invite from their Outlook to me, the invite comes across with plain text indicating the time/place. However, with the person sends an invite from their Blackberry device, I actually receive the invite with the typical accept/decline options. The person sending from Outlook uses XP and I use Office 98 (soon to change). Any ideas on actually receiving the message with the typical voting buttons? Thank you.

It's probably because your company runs BackBerry Enterprise Server for Exchange, which translates and syncs the meeting invitations and replies through Exchange Server to Outlook, but the plain text meeting requests are from external servers and do not translate unless the Requestor sends an iCal or vCal.

John, thanks. Where would I go to locate either an iCal or vCal? Again, thanks for the information.

iCal and vCal are not programs, they are calendar item formats available in Outlook and some other personal information manager applications. (For example I think the Palm Desktop PIM can create vCals.) The Meeting requester can elect to send invitees iCal or vCal format meeting requests as message attachments. In Outlook Calendar view you'll see the default vCal as Forward, and Forward as iCal as an option under Tools | Actions; the Calendar item right-click Forward option sends a vCal.
