    Border dashes (Excel 2002)

We are having problems with a workbook template. The attached document is based of the template. There are manual page breaks on the sheet and borders are used to form table sections. The problem is on the first page in print preview and on paper there are little vertical dashes which correspond to the borders. It looks like the top of the borders for the next page are printing on the first page. I've deleted the row and copied the top row from the next page. I've cleared the information and put the borders back in. I've adjusted the footer and bottom margins. I just can't get the dashes to go away.

    Help!?!?

OK I looked at it, and it seems fine. I guess its the print driver, what printer are you using?

It could be that the columns or rows are too small to display the text, and thus the text, most probably the spaces are running over the edge thus hiding the boarder.

Also try to make the background shading None (No Fill).

    Hope this helps.

Sorry I just realized what is going on...

You have the page break set at row 47 and make boarders on row 49 it should be OK. Try it and tell me if I over shot the moon on this one.

I replied to this message earlier this afternoon, but I now do not see that reply so I will try again.

I can also see the problem that you report on my XL2K using two different print drivers. I am afraid I don't know what causes this or how to get around it. I just wanted to confirm that it does look like a problem.

    Re: Border dashes (Excel 2002)

Thanks for looking at my workbook, Wassim.

It seems that there was a vertical page break in column C (between b and c). I removed that page break and again deleted the rows 46-49. I copied the similar rows from below, but the dashes are still on that first page.

    Re: Border dashes (Excel 2002)

I have not been able to work out why the problem was occurring but I have a workaround.

Change the rows to print at the top of each page to the first 9 rows instead of 10. Add the double line border to the top of the tables on every page.

Thanks, Tony, that will work for me. Work arounds can be as good as a solution to the "Why" of the problem.
