Spybot S&D 1.3 update, 23-06-2004

Just for interest, there was a new Detections Rules update with the above date.

I am becoming really unimpressed with the lack of information on their website about updates, what they contain, and how often they are made available. Does anyone have anybody "on the inside", who might be able to take up the cause of providing regular and accurate information?

Someone on the inside, you mean... like a Spy?

I recall some post a while back about the author responding to a call for more clarity and promising more info - or am I mixing that up with Ad-Aware?
Have you contacted them yourself about your concerns? - it could be that if no-one ever gives them feedback they work on the assumption that everyone is happy.

I posted a couple of times on the support bulletin board during the hiatus between the ceasing of support/updates for v1.2 and the introduction of v1.3. My view was that they seemed quite happily set in their ways, and didn't quite know how to respond to constructive criticism.

Perhaps there isn't enough profit in the product line to motivate them? I guess we'll get what we deserve someday when Symantec or McAfee purchases the product and offers us their version of support.

Why not just use the advanced feature of automatically checking for and/or downloading the updates?

I suppose you're right, in me expecting a good level of support from a 'free' product. But all I was really after was information that told me when there had been an update and what was in it! (It's extremely difficult to find out what viruses have been 'fixed' in each Norton update...

Why not indeed? Answer: only if you knew these options were available!!

Thanks!

John

PS it is my theory that the update does not apply until the next invocation of Sypbot S&D. Or maybe that applies to Ad-aware? Or perhaps to both?
