    Excel to Access error (2003)

Having just migrated to Windows XP and office 2003, I now find an error when importing Excel spreadsheet into Access. When I highlight the field heading it is not getting updated in the dialog boxes so that I cannot choose which column to ignore, index etc. This worked in 2000!

I have attached two pictures to show 2000 and 2003 problem.

See Access 2003 hotfix package: March 17, 2004. It seems that you will have to contact Microsoft to obtain the hotfix.

Thanks very much for that Hans. I will get on to it immediately.

As usual Woody's has come to my aid in record time.

Is there a hotfix for AccessXP? I have the same issue with my AccessXP on WindowsXP, and cannot find a hotfix on Microsoft's web.

    Thanks!

As far as I know, there is no hotfix for Access 2002 (aka XP). I don't have this problem in Access 2002 SP-2; are you using SP-3? I found one newsgroup post mentioning this problem for Access 2002 SP-3. The suggested workaround is to link to the Excel table instead of importing it, then using a make-table query (an append query could be used too.)

    Hans,

Thanks for the response. Yes, I am using SP-3.

    RE:Link then make table
Ugh! I am sure glad my car doesn't require "workarounds". Otherwise I guess I would have to climb in and out of the passenger door, or only make left hand turns. LOL
