    printer communications

I have a nice, new XP pc that installs my HPLaserjet 4L from the list of available printers, but *instantly* errors out with "Error - printing" in the status window. I would appreciate any suggestions on diagnosing this problem, since the vendor is on the other side of the continent! Thank you.

Have you checked out the HP site for updated drivers, rather than using the ones included with XP?

I clicked the Windows Update button on one of the dialog screens. Would that have the same effect? I will definitely do your suggestion, too. Thanks.

No, That would give you the MS windows update site and would not necessarily get the latest drivers for your particular printer.

For HP printers, go to: HP PRINTERS
check the radio button for drivers and select the model printer that you have.
    Download that and install it.
