    Autocorrect and ampersand (2000/XP)

    Has anybody ever seen behavior where you type an autocorrect abbreviation followed by and ampersand (&) and the abbreviation is expanded? In other words, the ampersand acts like a space. If you have seen this behavior, do you know how to turn it off?

    Thanks...

    The same thing seems to happen with other punctuation (e.g., period (full stop), comma, semi-colon, colon, question mark, exclamation point, closing parenthesis, closing square bracket, closing curly brace (}), hyphen, underscore, equal sign, asterisk, and so forth). All of these are "word boundaries."

    I don't see a setting to turn this on and off. You might have to change your AutoCorrect entry so that it isn't something that will occur before an ampersand, or get accustomed to using Ctrl+Z (undo) to cancel the expansion. (Perhaps there is a complicated way to deal with this in VBA, but nothing springs to mind...)

    Hi -

    If you want an Autocorrect entry without a trailing space, in Replace with box, type the abbreviation along with a punctuation mark: ie, for Hence you would enter h#. When you typed the h#, hence will have the cursor immediately after the

    Here's my problem. I'm converting expansions from a third party vendor to autocorrect. Sometimes they'll have embedded punctuation in their abbreviations. This is a problem when there are ambiguous entries such as:

    f ------> fyodor
    f&d --------> fyodor dostoyevsky

    If you then type: "f&", autocorrect will expand to "fyodor" without checking for the "f&d" entry. Is there a way around this problem?

    Thanks...

    Don't use punctuation characters such as & in the abbreviation. Instead, use something like fmd (for Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky)
