Adding Events to Outlook from Webpage (All)

I've been noticing website now where they have an online calendar, and then the ability to click a link beside an event that will add that event to my Outlook calendar. Can anyone direct me to information online on how that is done? It would be a great feature for our new website but I haven't been able to locate anything about it.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Adding Events to Outlook from Webpage (All)

Very likely, someone saved that event from Outlook (or used some other software to generate it) in "vCalendar" format. Try this:
    1.
Open a calendar item

Choose File>Save As...

Change the file type to vCalendar (*.vcs) format

Save the file under a convenient name

Open the file in Notepad or WordPad
As you can see, this is a simple text format, identified as VERSION:1.0. Mutliple-line fields are encoded in "quoted printable" format, which is a standard from the e-mail world. A newer format can be generated by saving in iCalendar (*.ics) format. It's a bit easier to read, and seems to have a tiny bit more functionality. (I assume that most site visitors will be able to use either, but if in doubt, it makes sense to use the older VCS format.)

    Hope this helps.
