Installing CD-ROM Drive

I'm trying to install a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive in my Dell GX110. The jumper is set to master and I connected its IDE cable to the only available port. I downloaded and installed the Mitsumi driver. But the drive is not recognized. Can anyone help me?

Is it the only device on the cable?

    Re: Installing CD-ROM Drive

When you sy the only available port, do you have the hard disk going to IDE1 and the cdrom to IDE2, both as masters and both the only device attached to that cable????

Well, I can only think of one obvious question; is there any spinup attempt at all, as evidence that the drive is powered, but incommunicado?

    Re: Installing CD-ROM Drive

Try switching the drive from Master to Slave.. but first...

Have you setup your bios to recognize a secondary master? Most bios settings have an option to autodetect. Also, have you setup the MSCDEX driver in your config.sys file? (this may not be necessary, generally when you setup the secondary master in the BIOS, windows will plug-n-play the Rom Drive...

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Installing CD-ROM Drive

What type of drive is it?

You may be able to hop on over to http://www.driverguide.com, (username = drivers, password = all) and download a driverset for your particular make/model...

    Re: Installing CD-ROM Drive

I already downloaded and installed the appropriate driver from the manufacturer's site.
