    WordPerfect Viewer (Office 2000)

    I'm wanting to install the WP viewer into an Office 2000 installation on 98SE. The target computer is having problems reading its CD. I'm wondering if it's possible to do this manually, from floppy(s), by extracting the appropriate CD files, transferring to the appropriate places, adjusting setting etc.? If this is viable, could someone please tell me how it's done? I could also e-mail the files as attachments, to avoid using the CD.

    thanks

    Alan

    Re: WordPerfect Viewer (Office 2000)

    WordPerfect VIEWER is standalone application that allows you to read/print WordPerfect documents. I guess you mean WordPerfect CONVERTER, an add-in for Microsoft Office that allows you to "translate" WP document to an Office document and then edit it.

    According to http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/...ols/BoxA07.htm, "The converter pack for Office 2003 also works for Office 97, Office 2000, and Office XP, whose converter packs have been retired.
    "

    If you still have an old Office 2000 Converter Pack (convpack.exe - 12.1 MB file), you can use it, if not, you can download Office Resource Kit toolset (ork.exe - 7.13 MB file) from the website above.

    If you have an application as WinZip, you can make ZIP file splitting it between several floppies and unzipping to another computer.

    If you have another computer running Office 2000 with Converter Pack installed, you can copy converter files and Registry settings.

    Text converters are copied to Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedTextConv
    The following text converters are installed:
    WordPerfect 5 import converter (Wpft532.CNV)
    WordPerfect 6 and above import converter (Wpft632.CNV)
    WordPerfect Equation filter (WpEqu532.DLL)

    The following Registry settings must be copied for each converter:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionSharedDLLs]
    "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedTextConvWPFT632.CNV"=dword:00000002
    "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedTextConvWRD6ER32.CNV"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsText ConvertersImportWordPerfect6x]
    "Extensions"="doc wpd"
    "Name"="WordPerfect 6.x"
    "Path"="C:PROGRA~1COMMON~1MICROS~1TEXTCONVWPFT632. CNV"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice9.0WordTe xt ConvertersImportWordPerfect6x]
    "Name"="WordPerfect 6.x - 7.0"
    "Path"="C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedTextConvWPFT632.CNV"
    "Extensions"="wpd doc"

    And any other entries (unfortunately, I don't have an Office 2000 machine) mentioning converters listed above.

    I hope it will be helpful.

    Re: WordPerfect Viewer (Office 2000)

    Hi Kaplin

    Yes, I did mean the converter, rather than the viewer <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15>. Your info is very helpful. I followed your lead to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...8&product=wrd20 and was at first heartened at the apparent simplicity. But http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/...ols/BoxA07.htm indicates the need to fiddle the registry, which I think might be beyond this particular user. I had also forgotten about the WordPerfect Equation filter (WpEqu532.DLL), which will be needed for the kind of docs he'll be looking at.

    I suspect that downloading the updated converter pack might be the best solution here. Many thanks for the info.

    Alan
