    Multiple instances of workbook (97)

When I open up a workbook I'm getting multiple instances e.g. workbook.xls:1, workbook.xls:2 etc - it's driving me mad. Any idea how to stop this?

Just close all instances but one, then save the workbook. Next time, you'll get just one window.

You can open multiple windows on the same workbook through Window | New Window. This enables you to view different parts of a workbook at the same time, or use different ways of viewing a worksheet. When you save a workbook, the window configuration is stored with it.
