If the (server) on my home network is running XP Pro, can a (wireless) node that is running 2000 communicate with it?

I set it up when both were on 2000, but now that one is XP, the same procedure doesn't seem to work...

In Explorer on the 2000 machine, the other pc shows up, but with no files etc. available...

    ??

    Joe:

I 'THINK' I've got most of that figured in... but I don't see any answer in it for my challenge: that when I go to map a drive/folder, and I have already set the 'share' value on the folder, I still see none at all available for mapping from the 'node'...

And I saw nothing in the prose about a 2000/XP conflict, therefore I'm confused...

    Chuck

Do you have an account set up on the XP box with the same user/password as the win2k box?

Yea, that crossed my mind too, so I double-checked that both boxes have the same user lists...

And even if I need(ed) a driver for XP or 2000, shouldn't I at least be able to "see" each machine from the other?

    Chuck

    Joe:

'Cause when I'm on the 2K pc, I can see the XP pc when I'm in explorer trying to map a drive... but there aren't any folders (directories) showing... similarly, the printers (which are set to share) don't show up either -- and that's either (both) ways that you cannot find all the pieces...

    Chuck

Do you have a software firewall enabled on either of these PCs?

    Stuart:

I have ZoneAlarm on the 2K pc...

But, the part I'm (obviously) not getting, is, if I can see the XP PC from the 2K PC (Explorer, exe , Tools/Map Network Drive / Browse) I see both stations. But when I click the '+' to open the station and browse the folders, the '+' goes away, and there is no access...

I could understand not being allowed to access the PC, but not even seeing the drives or folders?

Try disabling ZoneAlarm for a while to see if it makes any difference.

    Re: Sharing

If you have NOT shared any folders or a printer on the XP machine then you can NOT see anything but the machine.
