    Online application sharing software

Does anyone know of either free or relatively inexpensive online application (aka "demoing") software? For some reason Netmeeting is not working for us. We did all of the router/firewall/etc. tricks and would just like to try something else. A cheap WebEx or such. The problem is only a few times a year we have to demo applications (or show a PowerPoint) to people outside of the country, who many times are on the Internet via dial-up. It has to be fairly simple... many people are befuddled with the necessary fiddling with Netmeeting. If we get this working, we might even try some distance teaching/coaching of some type...

    I don't have anything I can recommend, but if you're just getting started looking, check out Real-Time Conferencing at http://www.thinkofit.com/. Hours of reading. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Thanks. This is a good resource. I struck out doing just a Google of "web conferencing" and such. I think this might do it for me.

I have no idea about these sorts of applications, but this link might help with the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> aspect of the query.

    Re: Online application sharing software

Thanks. I should have said "not really expensive" rather than free... we'll pay for whatever we need but can't afford the WedExs out there... <grin> For the benefit of other readers of this thread, I did check out several of these applications:

RealVNC = free open-source, you load a server component that starts as a service on XP, then other computers that load the small client can use the server's IP address to attach and see the screen. That's about it. The client can then use the mouse and "do" stuff on the Server side. I didn't see any chat or other communication, so a telephone call seems to be a must to supplement this type of access.

ShareItNow = one-to-one is free and pay for multiple connections. Same as RealVNC but with additional typing/chat communication. Instead of a client app, the clients connect to a website and just use whatever browser they have.

eBlvd = seems to be online audio AND access to a toll-free conference number for around $30/month. App sharing, audio, teleconference (so you could do either Internet-based audio or phone calls to supplement). I haven't gotten my free demo account yet, so hope to find out if this really works the way they say...

    Eric,
Have you checked out MS Live Communcations Server or MS Live Meeting Product Information? Live Communications Server is relatively inexpensive if you already have Windows Server 2003. MS has various pricing schemes for Live Meeting (this is the Placeware product they acquired).

Good idea, but Live Meeting is way too expensive at $375/month for five seats. Yikes! Unfortunately we don't have Windows 2003 Server anywhere... we need either a as-needed temporary Server that can be loaded and unloaded, or a hosted system -- I think hosted might be the best because of routers and firewalls doing their jobs...

    Eric,
There is a pay per use option also. $0.35/minute.

    Ooops. I didn't see that. Thanks. I think the sticker shock blinded me... <grin> <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>
