    Markup won't switch off?! (2003)

    Hi,

We have a document where the Markup is always active when the document is opened. Even if we switch it off & then close, reopen the file.

    Just won't go away!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    BD.

The settings for keeping track of changes and for displaying changes are both on the Reviewing toolbar, but they are separate. If you turn of revision tracking, tracked changes will still be displayed. You must either switch off showing tracked changes too, or accept/ignore all tracked changes.

If that doesn't help, perform a trivial edit, such as typing a space, then save the document explicitly before closing it.

Accepting the changes fixed the problem.

    Thanks Hans.

    Hi Bob,

If you're using Word 2003, there's a setting under Tools -> Options -> Security to "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving". If that box is checked, any revisions or comments will appear whenever you open a document.
