    Linking 98SE with XP Home

    Hello everyone!
Heres the problem. I have two laptops. One with 98SE and the other with XP Home.
I have a lot of family photos still on the 98 computer. SInce it didn't have an RJ-45 jack, I went and bought a NETGEAR ethernet card that had one on it. How do I link these two together and get my photos? I have the XP laptop setup as the client, but I can't figure out 98 as far as a connection is concerned.

Did you also get a router or hub?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

If your Netgear card came with a CD and installation instructions for Windows 98, try that.

If not, Windows XP can create a floppy disk to help you network your Windows 98 computer to Windows XP. (I haven't tried it, but I think it works for 98...)

Once Windows 98 is able to use the network card, you need one of two things to network the two computers together:

    (1) A hub or switch that translates the signal between the two computers, or
    (2) A cross-over cable (usually orange) that directly connects the two NICs.

At that point, you can "see" the other computer and have to start dealing with privileges to access stuff. Can you get that far?

keep in mind that once your XP machine can see the Win98 machine, you must also enable file sharing on the Win98 folders that you want to access. If this pc is also going out on the Internet, than after you've moved your files you'll want to disable the file sharing on the Win98 pc.
