BitPim

This is a request for information. Can anyone using BitPim, the CDMA phone interface software, advise on your general experience, pros, cons, and gotchas?

    Re: BitPim

I've been using it for some time and I quite like it. It is very beta, though, and is prone to blowing up at odd moments. The address book portion of it seemed particularly lacking as there was no import mechanism. The stable release, .62, works well. I have also used the later test releases with success but they have not been as reliable. There is a particular issue with the LG VX4400 phone where timeouts would occur, but it is not a fault of the software.

What I particularly like about BitPim is the ability to move images and MIDI files to and from the phone at will. With camera phones there is also the added benefit of being able to pull any pictures off directly without having to pay a fee to send them as you normally would. Not that the camera aspect of a phone is all that great to begin with, but that fact makes it seem all the more ludicrous to me that you should have to pay 25 cents every time you want to send one of those grainy pictures. I have also been able to set up custom backgrounds/wallpapers which can be used for specific contacts.

A final thought...I have experiemented with a combination of Anvil Studio and BitPim to get the ringtones that I want installed on my phone. The reason I started doing this is because the ringers are limited to thirty (30) seconds and Anvil allows me to tweak their volumes and lengths. I'd recommend this if you want to customize ringers.

Thanks, Mark. Someone had already steered me to Anvil Studio. In-a-gadda-da-vida is a little more than 30 seconds!

It may be longer than thirty seconds...but it's because they're repeating the same thing over and over and over....
