Including Word References in Excel cells? (XP and later)

I have an excel spread sheet that I would like to pull in the headings/titles from a word document.
The Word document has a list of test, and the excel spread sheet is a set of test results.
So if the test names/numbers change I want the change automatically updated in the excel file.
Is this possible? And if so, how?

    Thanks
    John

You can copy a heading in Word to the clipboard, then paste a link into a cell as follows:
    - Select the cell
    - Select Edit | Paste Special...
    - Click Paste Link
    - Select Text or Unicode Text in the list labeled "As"
    - Click OK.
    Repeat for each heading.

This will not transfer automatic numbering, however, only the text of the heading (including numbering typed manually)

The Heading/Title numbers will be automatically generated by word, and I need these copied across to the excel cells automatically whenever the excel spread sheet is opened (or via some manual request to update fields etc...).
The word document is live and will be updated a fair bit to start with, so this facility would save a lot of time/effort/errors.

    Thanks again

Hopefully someone else will have an idea. I don't know how to refer to Word paragraph numbers in Excel, except by using a kludge such as creating a cross reference to the paragraph number in Word, then create a link to the crossref in Excel.

You might want to post a question to the WORD board asking if there is a way to get this info from Word VBA. If you can get it in Word VBA, you should be able to have excel get the info.

I rarely use WORD and I never use macros in word, so I have no experience with the word object model.

Thanks, I'll give it a go, and let you know if it works.
