    Making Multiple Choice Questions

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

If one is to make up a multiple choice questions test:

    1) Would it be harder to have an odd or even number of choices?

    2) How many choices should there be to eliminate the effect of chance?

I am currently thinking that 4 choices will be the hardest to figure.

More you might give clues, less well then chance will come in play.

Plus 4 choices that means you still have a 50-50 situation if you eliminate two, and thus you MUST know your stuff before giving the answer.

    Any help will be wonderful.

See <post#=362600>post 362600</post#>, which illustrates some of the pitfalls in setting multiple choice questions. Another common mistake is (unintentionally) giving too much detail in the correct alternative, compared to the other choices - keep all choices the same sort of length. HTH.

Once you get all the answers right, you'll have discovered the pitfalls. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
