Footnote problem - hidden text (2000)

It must be footnote problem week.
I have a footnote in a piece of hidden text. The text is hidden and the footnote reference is hidden. But the footnote itself still appears. Duh!
If the footnote reference is hidden, surely one would expect that the footnote itself should be hidden. But no.
PS: I don't mind that the footnote references will have some gaps.

That is annoying: even if you select the footnote reference and text down in the footnote pane and hide it, you get a separator! Not sure what you're supposed to do in this case.

Hmmm, funny this hasn't been a problem in my world before, but go ahead and hide each component... It's a bit of work. Start in Normal View, then View/ Footnotes/ and click the dropdown to visit each footnote component that might come into play - separator bar, continuation, etc. and mark them (or style them - since they're mostly in Normal) to be hidden as well. You could style them in your template so that they're all controllable in one step if this looks to be a regular issue...
