    Word goes into e-mail format (Word 2000 SP3)

    When attempting to attach or insert an email document into an open Word document, the format of Word changes into an email format. Is there a way to prevent this and just have the file as an attachment in the Word document? In a document as described above, is there a way to change it back to a "normal" Word format?

    If you click the "envelope" icon on Word's Standard toolbar (next to the Save icon), does that do what you want?

    What are the exact steps that are causing the odd behavior? Insert > File > pick something.msg > click Insert

    Does it matter whether you start Word using its icon on the Start menu (or QuickStart toolbar) or from Outlook?

    Probably didn't read your question correctly

    As a general setting:

    Select Tools | Options...
    Activate the General tab.
    Tick the 'Mail as attachment' check box.
    Click OK.

    For one document only:

    Select File | Send To | Mail Recipient (As Attachment)
