    XP Driver for Oki 590

My Okidata 590, 24 pin, printer has worked beautifully for about 10 yrs under Win 98SE. It printed Web pages nicely, both the graphics and the text. Then, about a year ago I got a new computer with Win XP. Using the driver that is part of XP, the printer doesn't work well on graphics -- each pixel is visible with lousy resolution. (Text still prints beautifully.) Oki's web site says use the driver that's part of XP, i.e., they're no help.
Questions: is my problem with the driver? If so, what driver should I use, and where can I get it? If not the driver, then what?

I suspect that, yes, the problem is with the XP driver. But if Oki doesn't provide something on its website, then your only real option is to buy a new printer, and contribute to the printer company's profits in a way you have so sadly failed to do over the past ten years! Oki would now probably be appalled that one of their printers has lasted that long!

The advances in printing graphics and pictures, even over the past three years, have been stunning. And remember the current printer company business model: that the printer is (nearly) free, and what you pay for are the ink cartridges -- lots and lots of them, where, per millilitre, the ink costs more than vintage champagne...

I'm with John (I think) in that you've gotten your money's worth outta that baby, and I think you'd be happy jumping to the "new era" printers. In case you want to look, I usually have good luck with Driver Guide You have to <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> register at Driver Guide

Thanks to you, both John and Bigaldoc. Adding to my problem is that I am more concerned with my bottom line than with Oki's -- after all, the printer works fine, or would with the proper driver.
Thanks especially for the link to DriverGuide. It must have been me, but I couldn't get it to list ANY Okidata printer. The closest I got was a driver for an HP 590, and the driver was multi-megabytes long.
I guess I gotta bite the bullet and get a modern printer. But I hate the high unit cost of ink cartfidges, so I'm leaning toward a home sized laser printer. With it, I can go broke getting new toner cartridges. Thanks again.

Try this site for Oki drivers for the 590. It has them for win 2000 & NT so it might be worth a try.
