Did you get any mssage on the Uninstall to say that some parts of AVG might have been left behind?

I don't use AVG, but in general...

    0) Set a System Restore Point, so you can return your system to its present (unsatisfactory, but working) state!

    1) Your best bet is probably to look through C:Program Files to see if the AVG directory (or was it Grisoft?) is still present with perhaps files and/or subdirectories. If present, delete it/them and try the reinstall again.

    2) If this doesn't work, you may have to run REGEDIT and do Edit => Find for any instances of either AVG (or perhaps Grisoft), and <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16> delete the keys and data. This is a potentially dangerous mechanism, which is why setting the System Restore Point is a Good Thing. You need a bit of experience/confidence here! Then retry the install.

    Good luck!

    Re: AVG Anti-Virus

    John,

I have tried part 1. But am very reluctant to try part 2 as l don't want the problem to be worse!
I am sure there are some files still in the registry as you mentioned , this is why the program is unable to install.
I will have a look at the Grisoft website for some assistance in deleting files from the registry.

    Thanks for your advice.
    Justin.
