    Can't turn of Final Showing Markup in template (Word 2003)

    We have a macro that opens a letter and performs a mail merge with an existing data souce and automatically prints the letters to a printer.

    The problem we are having is that the letters all open and print in Final Showing Markup, and all the revision marks print. We don't want to save the letters - just print them. So the programmer doesn't want to accept changes and save the documents in the code.

    A programmer wrote the macros, and she doesn't know Word. I don't know programming. I keep thinking that if I could make a template based on normal.dot that shows Final without revision marks, that when the macro runs it would not show the revision marks. I have tested this, and no matter what I do, every new document opens in Final Showing Markup. Consequently, all the letters print with revision marks.

    Any ideas? Maybe this is so simple that I will kick myself. I have turned off "make hidden mark ups visible" in Options.

    Hi Melanie,

    There's a setting under Tools->Options (can't recall which tab, and I'm on a 2000 machine right now) that tells Word 2003 to always open documents with markup showing. Perhaps this setting is turned on?

    Yes, I know about that setting, and I made sure it's turned off. Thanks for the thought, though.

    In between opening and printing, you could add code to accept all the changes, and then tell Word that the document was not changed. This should avoid any prompt to save, although printing itself might cause that prompt to appear when field codes in the document are updated.

    <pre>Sub AcceptChgsAndPrint(docToPrint As Document)
    ' Procedure must be called with a file name parameter
    With docToPrint
    ' Check for any revision marks
    If .Revisions.Count > 0 Then
    ' Accept all the marked revisions
    .Revisions.AcceptAll
    ' Mark document as unchanged
    .Saved = True
    End If
    ' Print the document
    .PrintOut Background:=False
    End With
    ' Return to calling procedure
    End Sub
    </pre>

    Note: I didn't actually test this, but that's the theory!

    I asked one of our programmers to add code to accept track changes before the docs print. He did and it did and they printed great. Thank you for you idea.
