Spurious calls on Windows Installer

I tried Search on this but didn't come up with anything directly relevant. Also, I didn't know in which forum this would be best placed VB or Word so I've gone for GOS. I'm using Windows 2000 and Office 2000.
Spurred on by loungers demonstrating just how little I actually know about Word, I started reading the Bill Coan documents about writing macros. Trying things out as I went, I discovered how to invoke context sensitive VB Help. Anything on the contents list displayed OK (as far as I can tell) but when I went to the Answer Wizard tab and typed Dim | Search, Windows Installer popped up "Preparing to Install" and then started to "configure MS Front Page 2000"
I cancelled this, and the relevant help page then appeared OK. I then tried displaying other topics from the topics list which appeared as a result of that Search. Lots of them displayed normally, but clicking on others, e.g "Dim Statement example", "Balloon type property" started the installer off again (MS Front Page again). Once again, cancelling this resulted in the help page being displayed OK.
Can any lounger(s) shed light on what's gone wrong and how it might be corrected, please?
Thanks in anticipation

Re: Spurious calls on Windows Installer

OK - the support guys have narrowed this down a bit. All machines are built using a standard Goldbrick - specific user apps are installed post the basic build. This problem does not occur with the basic goldbrick build but it does happen on any machine which then has MS Front Page 2000 installed. Clearly it's to do with Front Page, but what, exactly?

This relates to a project which is building/about to roll out machines to hundreds of staff - a large proportion of which will have Front Page. It's therefore fairly urgent the problem gets fixed. Our support people can't nail this - can any lounger, please?
TIA

you can tell it's been awhile since i installed office 2000? is FP on a different cd or is it installed with the rest of the suite, using the same install dialog to select the options?

If it is on it's own dialog, you didn't install FPs VBA help and it's looking for it.

No wonder you're a moderator! Winning hit!
After your comment, I repeated the sequence, to provoke the 'quirk'. This time, instead of cancelling it, I attempted to let it run to conclusion. It failed, attepting to find a file 'data1.msi'. All our software is held on a server which only the PC builders have access to - so a) I did not have a drive mapped to this location and could not map a drive because I did not have necessary permissions (This system is used to ensure licence consistency). Spoke with the technical guru and he gave me read permissions. Mapped the drive and tried again. This time Front Page setup ran to completion. Rebooted and tried again - VB context sensitive help works tickety boo!
Now it's up to the technical bods to sort out how to put this into a properly controlled build and installation process so Front Page is setup properly first time round!
Thanks so much - the lounge comes up trumps again!
