Operation failed error when opening attachments (OL2000/Exch2000)

I have a custom form (based on the email form) that holds attachments. When trying to open *some* of the attachments I get the error "The operation failed". This only happens with some attachments and more often than not these are MS Office 2000 documents. Can anyone shine any light on what causes this and how to cure it?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with how Exchange plays into this, so I probably can't be of much help, but I do have a couple of question.

    - What is the difference between the custom form and the default form?

    - Does the problem afflict any particular mail format and not others (i.e., HTML format)?

The custom form has the body of an email form but then has a number of new text fields

I haven't thought about the format. I think it is outlook rich text.

    Does this help?

    Hi Paul
We are experiencing a similar problem. However, when a user opens an attached email (an email that has been forwarded as an attachment) for the second time in the same session of Outlook, they receive the error "The operation failed". These email attachments are in html format. We are using Outlook 2003/Exchange 5.5. I can replicate this issue every time.
