A Hopeless Case?

    Hi,

A friend of mine was given an old portable (an HP OmniBook 6000) to use which I am configuring for him ... trouble is that when I move the TFT screen around the picture flickers, disappears, reappears, disappears again and so on. I'm guessing the plastic "ribbon cable" (for want of a better word) is failing to properly connect to whatever connector there is for it on the motherboard.

Is this just something inevitable with portables or is there some way I can fix it without purchasing expensive bits?

We still haven't got our signature line correct, have we!! Incorrect hexadecimal equivalents are very offputting (to me, at least!) when it comes to answer your question...

    Anyway, back to basics!

I think you would probably be able to answer your own question if you could (partially) dismantle the notebook and see how the ribbon cable connects. If it is just loose, fine; if things are becoming detached, you need to assess whether getting it repaired, if it can be repaired, is worth the cost and effort...

29A is the hexadecimal value of the Beast.

    Ita, esto, quidcumque...

    Aarrgghhh!

NOW I get it! Duh! Sorry!

I know in advance it won't be worth his effort as it was a freebie.

And ... er ... sorry for the tag line thing!
