Can thumbnail picture sizes be made bigger? (XP SP1)

Suppose I have a folder full of JPEGs, and I am viewing it using Windows Explorer, View, Thumbnails.

This gives me about 7 pictures across by about 6

TweakUI has an option to increase the size of thumbnails though there are limitations. The settings only apply to new thumbnails and old ones retain their original quality settings.

    Tony

I installed TweakUI, increased the thumbnail size from 96 to 128 pixels, and all my OzPic thumbnails now show up correspondingly larger (whatever the limitation was supposed to be!)

    Thanks very much!

Incidentally, I now remember how I was able to change the sizes of these JPEGs, because I had installed the Image Resizer Power Toy, and so could produce folders containing Small, Medium and Original versions of the pictures...

"old ones retain their original quality settings"
Only the QUALITY setting is retained, not the resizing of the thumbnails.

Dave: not sure what you/they mean by "quality setting"? I wouldn't expect the actual file to be changed, and I don't suppose that's what they mean!

Hans: not sure what you are puzzled about - I had expected your ceaseless monitoring to generate the first reply!

Yes, I saw that when I changed the number of pixels -- but I still don't understand it!

If you set the number of pixels in an image, how else can you change the "Quality" of the image? The only way I can see this is if you change the number of colours. Perhaps it's a Saturday morning...!

PS Later...... It has suddenly occurred to me that what they (and you!) may be talking about is the file THUMBS.DB, which is presumably where these Thumbnails live, and will change in size depending on the resolution that has been set for the Thumbnails. But that still doesn't answer my "Quality" question!

The thumbnail images are compressed. Image compression algorithms such as JPEG have a quality setting: at 100 % there is no loss at all, and the lower the percentage, the more details will be lost - edges will become fuzzy, and the image will look "pixelated" with large "pixels".
