setting up another email account (xp)

We have a computer with XP on it..It has a dial up connection to the ISP. However, we want to add the business email capability by using Outlook Express. The business has a DIFFERENT ISP. In effect the business's website is a web mail access presently. We want to download that email from that site onto the computer through Outlook Express. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks, John

Do you have the necessary settings from the second ISP? For example:

Incoming POP3 mail server name: mailhost.isp.net
Username (should be same as for webmail)
Password (should be same as for webmail)

If the ISP does not let you retrieve mail using its POP server, does it offer IMAP? If not, you might still be able to retrieve the mail using an additional program, but let's save that for another message.

Once you have the settings for incoming mail, you have to decide whether you want to combine it with your other mail or create a different identity to keep the mail separate. I don't use Outlook Express, so I don't know how that works, but it's something to consider.

When you're ready to add the new account, you need to use the outgoing mail server settings for the ISP you plan to use to connect to the Internet. This is not necessaraily the same as the mail server from which you are retrieving mail! Most ISP's mail servers will not forward (relay) mail unless they know it's you, and the way they know it's you is that you are coming to them from their network. The exception is mail servers that let you connect securely and give them your username and password, so they really know it's you. If your business account ISP has this option, it may be buried on their site, but sometimes it is better than using your other dial-up ISP (e.g., slightly more secure because the connection is encrypted, possibly different limits on message size).
