How to Share Drive for Other Users? (XP SP-1)

I have an XP computer networked peer-to-peer to a Win98 computer.

The XP computer acts as a server to several Win98 computers

The Win98 computer could open documents on the XP computer and save the back to the XP computer.

Something happened with my XP Nic card and I replaced it and reinstalled the network connection.

Now on the Win98 computer can open documents on the XP computer and when I try to save the document back to the XP computer I get the following message:

    Cannot save

Open Windows Explorer on the XP machine, right click the shared drive and select Properties. Then select the sharing tab and make sure there is a check mark in the "Allow network users to change my files" box.

Your share tab looked like mine (Windows XP Professional SP1)
I think that the one Dave showed was from Windows XP Home.

Edited to add an answer for your second question The easiest way to save a screen shot for posting to the lounge is to paste it into Paint and then save it as a PNG file.

Are you on the 98 machine or the XP? Mine is a XP SP1 Home version, that I made the screen screen shot from.

See attachment for Clip Viewer location. Windows XP does NOT have this included in ANY menu areas. I do not use it as all it good for is what is in the Clipboard and I know what I just captured.

For the screen shots I use "PrintKey2000", it can be found at http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive...wnload=1&ID=292

After you can post a screen shot of your sharing pane then we may be able to tell what is going on.

I am running XP Pro on my lap top and the properties sharing pane is the same on the two. There is NO difference. Are the two of you on a "Domain" network I am on a Peer to Peer network?

Either of you can post a screen shot of what you have.

    Edit:
Added attachment and note I am running SP2 beta and it has a third area about the firewall

    Dave,

I think you will be able to see the same screen as I if you go to Folder Options > View > and clear the check box from "Use simple file sharing"

You are right, since we (The wife and I) are the only ones on this network, we stick to the "Simple sharing".
