Header/Footer Toolbar

What causes the AutoText entries in the drop-down to change and how can I get the default entries back?

Re: Header/Footer Toolbar

Assuming this is Word 2000, try this:

-View | Header and Footer
-right click Insert AutoText
-click Customize
-on the toolbar tab, select the Header and Footer checkbox (don't uncheck it)
-click Reset
Reset changes made for 'Header and Footer' toolbar for: Normal.dot?
-click OK

Hope this helps!

Re: Header/Footer Toolbar

Hi Cheri,

The AutoText entries that appear in the Header/Footer toolbar are associated with a specific style. If you want a better understanding of how this works, see http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/...ListContent.htm

Two things come to mind that would make them disappear:

1) You copy/pasted text in the Header or Footer that had a different style such as Normal. Take a look at the Style list on the Toolbar to verify this.

If this is the case, just apply the Header or Footer Style to the text or go to Insert/AutoCorrect/ Header/Footer to select the entry that you want.

2) You saved a document as Normal.dot and all of the built-in AutoText entries are missing, not just those you see on the Header/Footer toolbar.

To verify this, close the Header/Footer and go to Insert/AutoText and see if the built-in entries are listed.

If this is the case then rename your current Normal.dot to OldNormal.dot and allow Word to create a new one.

You can copy any customization you have in OldNormal.dot via the Organizer. (Tools/Templates and Add-Ins)

Cheers!
