Standard Toolbar disappearing (XP)

I have a particular problem. My "Standard" toolbar disappeared, so I looked at my list of available toolbars and the "Standard" had a check next to it (should be showing). It isn't, so I uncheched it and rechecked it. It won't recheck. I can't put a check next to the Standard toolbar to make it visable. I've done a "detection and repair". It fixed it!, until I closed Word and reopend Word a day later... now we're back where we started.

How about deleting or renaming normal.dot and restarting Word. Does this fix it?

Yes... that DID fix it. The reason I didn't do that was because when I did the "detect and repair", I checked the option of returning everything to Word's default settings. I figured that created a new Normal.dot (because, don't ya know, everything else disappeared!)
Thank you.

Maybe it got "off screen" somehow? There might be some VBA floating around to reset the position of a not-to-be-found toolbar, but since you don't need it at the moment, I think maybe I'll go play in the sun now.

After reading the above... you know the solution was deleting the Normal.dot. But after playing in the sun myself yesterday and firing up the PC and Word this morning.... we're back to square one.... The Standard Toolbar shows that it should be visable, but it isn't. I've checked around the screen, can't see any sign of it being "off screen" anywhere. So, now what... I'd hate to have to delete my Normal.dot EVERYDAY!

Try this:
- Activate the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11)
- Activate the Immediate window (Ctrl+G)
- Type
CommandBars("Standard").Position = 1
and press Enter.
- Switch back to Word (Alt+F11) to see if the toolbar has reappeared.

Note: the value 1 is msoBarTop, i.e. position the toolbar at the top of the Word window.

If the problem reocurrs after you try Hans' solution, then you probably have corruption in your Data key, which holds information relating to both your options & your toolbars. See <post#=197827>post 197827</post#> for instructions on how to delete this key, which will be rebuilt when Word is started.
