scandisk

When I hit the restart button on my PC it starts a scandisk because of a incorrect shutdown. I know there is a way to stop this scandisk but I forgot how to do it. Can someone tell me what I can do to change this.

    Re: scandisk

If you shut down improperly it will always runs the scandisk until you run it. So if you get the message , let it run and you should not see it again until you do things wrong again.

I know of no way of bypassing this safety feature.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

If you look at the Windows 98 resource kit on the Microsoft web site, expand Part 5 (System Management) and then go to chapter 27 - General Troubleshooting and search for "disable scandisk" you will find the instructions.
    1.
Click Start, point to Programs, Accessories, and System Tools, and then click System Information.

From the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility.

Click the Advanced button on the General tab

Check the box that says "Disable ScanDisk after bad shutdown"
Alternatively you could edit MSDOS.SYS and in the [Options] section you can set the value of AutoScan to a value of 0, see <!mskb=118579>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 118579<!/mskb>

I think you can hit escape to cancel the scandisk when it starts too.
