    Computer not talking to network

    Hey Everyone!!!
I have a computer at work that I just reformatted. I tried accessing the LAN for internet, and it doesn't work. It doesn't recognize other pcs around it, and It is not pulling a IP address either. All I get is the win 2k default of 169.254. The little link light is blinking, and just for fun I tried another network drop and I got the same result. The NIC card in this desktop is not intergrated so I checked the Device Manager for ? marks, and I found none. Does any one have any good ideas? I have also tried putting known good WINS, and DNS info in the pc, but nothing.
I would appreciate any help possible! Thanks.

Do you have the correct domain name or the Workgroup name based on which type of network your are on?

If you are one a "Domain" type have you set up the correct accounts?

You need to tell us more about your system and network.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

If you see the Windows 2000 IP address of 169.x.y.z then you failed to find a DHCP server.

I have tried different drivers, cables, and ports. It is not on a domain either. When I tried to join it to a domain, it would not detect it, I have not tried a different NIC card though.

Domain / workgroup membership and computer name are not relevant until you have a valid IP address. You need to sort this out first.
