    Mysterious Space puzzler... (2003)

(Ridiculously large screenshot that caused horizontal scrolling trimmed - Mod)

    Hi WOPRs,

The screen-shot (displaying non-printing characters) shows how a new Heading section starts on a new page.

How in the world can I get rid of that strange space & have my document as normal where one section just flows into the next and so on. No forced page breaks like this.

    Help!! TIA.

    BD.

Check if the heading on the next page has "Page break before" ticked in the "Line and Page Breaks" tab of Format | Paragraph...
Also check if the paragraph pointed to in your screenshot has a large value in Spacing > After in the "Indents and Spacing" tab.

    Dear Hans,

The screen-shot shows settings for both the things you mentioned.
    Both seem to be Ok.

    What shall I do!

    Cheers.

Perhaps you can make a copy of the document, remove most of its contents, replace remaining text by dummy text, and attach it to a reply. That would enable loungers to look at the problem directly.
You can tick "Remove personal information from this file on save" in the Security tab of Tools | Options... before saving the copy.

Looking at your screenshot of the properties for the heading that flips to the next page - it has the "keep with next" option checked. That means that the heading will only stay on the previous page if there is room for the heading *and* (at least some of) the paragraph following. If not, the heading gets dragged to the next page to keep it with the next paragraph. Uncheck that box and see if the problem changes.

Thanks guys, Ian's suggestion seems to have solved the problem.
Your tip Hans was very useful & I might use it next time.

Keep up the good work guys.
