Can't Access Header in Word Document (2000)

We have a document which is a version 9 (we have a document management system - not using Word's native versions) and we are unable to access the header or footer, no matter what approach we take. We have selected the text, cut it, then paste special as unformatted text - to no avail. We have deleted leading and ending paragraph marks and that doesn't work. Finally, we selected text and did paste special, unformatted into a fresh document and everything was fine.

It would seem logical to create an entirely new document, however we are trying to preserve this document since it is one out of nine versions of the same document. Any suggestions...anyone?

Re: Can't Access Header in Word Document (2000)

Could you make a copy of the file, remove any sensitive parts, & post it here? As long as the posted document is exhibiting the same behavior, we may be able to help you. BTW, you don't mention what happens when you try to access the header/footer. I assume that the document isn't protected for forms???
