    PestPatrol and SpeedFerret

I recently ran into a problem with the latest update to PestPatrol breaking SpeedFerret. The Black-Moshannon people are working with me to figure out the problem, but I've had no response from PestPatrol. Not only did PestPatrol identify the Infragistics controls and the registry keys used by SpeedFerret as adware/spyware entries, but after they were removed, even reinstalling SpeedFerret doesn't make it work with Access any more. Since I'm primarily an Access developer, that is a definite problem! Heads up to everyone on even the good spyware/adware cleaners: they can get it wrong if the files in question are sometimes included in a spyware product! I ran into the same problem with EasyMail SMTP, which is a library for sending emails without using Outlook. We license and use it in our applications, but apparently at least one spyware/adware product installs it as well, licensed or not. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

Does PestPatrol remove "adware/spyware" automatically, or do you get asked if you want to delete what it considers to be naughty?

Both Spybot and Ad-aware ask before removing, and Spybot even gives you the option of making a System Restore point before starting the removal process.

    Seems like the "freeware" wins?

No, like Ad-Aware it asks. However, there is no way to reliably determine what applications might be affected, which is also true of Ad-Aware, SpyBot, etc. It allows you to restore the deletions if you wish, but unfortunately, that did not fix SpeedFerret, although it did fix EasyMail SMTP.
